The revival of Hipstamatic photography
Sunday, February 21, 2010 at 2:41PM I've been a proud owner of an Iphone 3GS for a short while now and one of the things I have started doing regularly is downloading free and paid apps from the itunes store. There are an abundance of 3rd party Apps now available on the itunes store (140k and counting).
The other day a colleague at work introduced me to this cute little app called Hipstamatic. (Hipstamatic was a short-run plastic camera developed in the 1980's by two art school dropouts in Wisconsin, USA. It was never mass produced because the makers died in a tragic accident). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Master_donut/Hipstamatic
Being an avid Photographer myself I've never really been interested in the photographic abilities of the iphone. The builtin camera is simply too weak and lack decent picture quality and resolution. Having jumped onto the Hipstamatic App website to check it out I was pretty amazed at what this app could do.
Hipstamatic is definitely one of the best designed applications in the AppStore. It actually feels like you are using a real analog camera. This app also has a very good implementation of the In App Purchase. The camera comes equipped with a couple of lenses, films and one flash. But you can buy other available lenses, films and flashes to create your unique photographs. At the time of writing the app is only 1,59 €, so that's a no-brainer. Buy this app and and get amazed with the user experience and the awesome photographs.
There is already a big following on flickr with this app: http://www.flickr.com/photos/tags/hipstamatic/
